Meet Rook!
This handsome 52-pound Border Collie is as sweet as they come. Rook is a gentle soul with a heart of gold—once he warms up, he’ll be your most loyal shadow. He's a little reserved with strangers at first, but give him a moment and you'll see his affectionate, snuggly side shine through.
Rook is up to date on all his vaccinations, tested negative for heart worms and tick-borne diseases, neutered and in excellent health.
He’s currently polishing up his potty training and basic obedience skills—and proving to be a quick study! He does well in the house unsupervised and knows Focus, Touch, Sit, Down and Wait. Rook sleeps in his kennel all night with no fuss. He adores morning snuggles in bed after his potty break, and snuggles in general. Rook is great with other dogs and even gets along with cats. While he does show some herding instinct, he’s more lover than herder at home. He is really starting to enjoy playing with toys and beginning to understand the concept of fetch! (sometimes he forgets to bring the toy back with him, but his excitement about it will make you smile) He loves a good chew bone and pup cups on car rides. He is currently working on his socialization and taking it all in with grace.
If you're looking for a smart, sensitive pup who just wants to be by your side, Rook might be your perfect match!
Rook’s Story |
Rook came to us with his buddy Clover after being abandoned in the Springfield, MO area. The pair were left to fend for themselves, wandering the forest until kind-hearted rescuers were able to safely trap them and bring them to safety.
While Clover has since moved on to Midwest Border Collie Rescue, Rook is now thriving at Herding Hearts ResQ. In his first few days, he wanted nothing to do with people—understandable after all he’d been through. But with patience and kindness, Rook has blossomed into the biggest snuggler. He now seeks out affection and loves curling up close to his favorite humans.
He’s also been great with other dogs, showing calm and friendly social skills as he continues to grow in confidence. Rook is truly coming into his own, and we can’t wait to see him find a home where he’ll be cherished.
